Education
Ian Mattoch represents the fourth generation of his family to live in Hawaii. He graduated from Punahou School in 1961, Occidental College in 1965, and Northwestern University Law School in 1968. He has sponsored more than thirty seminars on medical-legal issues and has been a speaker at numerous local and mainland conferences on the litigation of personal injury claims.
Neurotrauma advocate
Through his representation of persons with traumatic brain injury, Ian was a strong supporter and active Board Member of the Brain Injury Association of Hawaii. Ian served as Legal Counsel, past Treasurer, and President of the Board of Directors for the Brain Injury Association of Hawaii. This “in-the-trenches” participation contributed to Ian’s knowledge of political issues, resources and understanding the needs of persons with traumatic brain injury.
Concurrently, Ian served on the Board of Directors for the Neurotrauma Advisory Board for the State of Hawaii’s Department of Health. Ian was actively involved with state and national legislative issues for persons with traumatic brain injury. Ian, with the help of others, established the Brain Injury Resource Center (BIRC), in Honolulu, Hawaii. Modeled after the Brain Injury Network, in Marin County, CA, the Brain Injury Association of Hawaii received funding to develop the concept, plan, and open Hawaii’s first Brain Injury Resource Center, a gathering place of resources, activities and fellowship for persons with traumatic brain injury.
