Ian Mattoch represents the third generation of his family to live in Hawai`i.  He graduated from Punahou School in 1961, Occidental College in 1965, and Northwestern University Law School in 1968.  He has sponsored more than thirty seminars on medical-legal issues and has been a speaker at numerous local and mainland conferences on the litigation of personal injury claims.

Neurotrauma advocate

Through his representation of persons with traumatic brain injury, Ian has become a strong supporter and active Board Member of the Brain Injury Association of Hawai`i.  Ian has served as Legal Counsel, past Treasurer and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Brain Injury Association of Hawai`i.  This “in-the-trenches” participation has contributed to Ian’s knowledge of political issues, resources and understanding the needs of persons with traumatic brain injury.

Concurrently, Ian serves on the Board of Directors for the Neurotrauma Advisory Board for the State of Hawai`i’s Department of Health.  Ian is also actively involved with state and national legislative issues for persons with traumatic brain injury.

Ian is pleased to report that, with the help of numerous individuals, the Brain Injury Resource Center (BIRC) has become a reality in the State of Hawaii.  Modeled after the Brain Injury Association of California’s Clubhouse in Marin County, CA, the Brain Injury Association of Hawai`i received funding to develop the concept, plan, and open Hawai`i’s first Brain Injury Resource Center; a gathering place of resources, activities and fellowship for persons with traumatic brain injury.
